Grenada Citizenship by Investment and the U.S. E-2 visa
Saturday, 21 September 2019 | 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
U.S. immigration laws provide a multitude of options for Indonesian citizens to reside and work in the United States. However, most of these options require a job offer from a U.S. employer or a significant investment with a processing time that averages more than 3 years. Treaties between the United States and many countries allow foreign nationals to come to the United States to conduct trade or to manage substantial investments. Treaties between the United States and nearly 80 countries allow for individuals and companies to seek E-2 Treaty Investor visas.
The E-2 visas are non-immigrant visas, but have many similarities to lawful permanent resident status. A treaty does not exist between the United States and Indonesia allowing for “E” visa status – however, Indonesians may seek citizenship in a foreign country such as Grenada (which is a relatively quick and efficient process), and then seek an “E-2” visa based on their newly acquired citizenship from the treaty country.
By acquiring Grenada citizenship, the Indonesian investor has the opportunity to then make an investment into a new or existing U.S. business and receive a 5 year multiple entry renewable E-2 visa that allows the investor to work in the newly acquired business. The spouse and children (under 21) of the investor have the opportunity to travel to the United States on dependent visas with the opportunity for the spouse to also seek work authorization and the children to attend school without a separate student visa.
